Tonight I’m headed to the Sommet Center to see the Boss play the whole Born to Run album and then some.  I can’t f**king wait.  If you’re down there, say hi.  Thanks for ticket, kt.  See you shortly.

I must confess I’m Twi-curious.  I want to see the new Twilight movie.  I know what you’re thinking, “of course you do, loser” and although I respect your opinion I don’t really care.  It’s a cultural phenomenon.  Sure I don’t understand it and probably never will, but it wasn’t made for me.  It was made for the millions of teenage girls who grow up to have cats named after characters in the book.  Clearly I will never be mistaken for one of those.

I saw the first one.  I hated every single minute of it.  It dragged in parts and was more focused on introducing the world to Robert Pattinson than actually telling a story.  As someone who prides himself on seeing a lot of movies, I could see this film was a mess.  The movie was a box office success, but it could have / should have been so much bigger.  The studio had no option but to fire the director and they did.

The main problem with the first Twilight film was that it alienated the average movie goer that hadn’t heard of the novel.  It gave us no reason to care because there were so many missing details.  When I watched it with GB on DVD a couple of months ago, she was able to explain some things that I hadn’t realized before but it was still too little too late for me.

Enter new director Chris Weitz of American Pie fame.  With American Pie and even About A Boy he was able to make smart (and sometimes gross) romantic comedies that put guys and girls in cinema seats.  He’s not the greatest director in the world, but his task here with New Moon is simple: give guys a reason to say “sure babe I don’t mind sitting through Twilight with you” – which obviously leads to more ticket sales and more success.

So with that said I’m twi-curious.  I’ll see it this weekend or next and I’ll let you know how it is.  I understand it’s not made for me (or probably even you if you’re reading this blog), but I’m going in with an open mind.  New director = new attitude.  It can’t be any worst than the first one can it?
