500 Days of Summer is a rom-com for the indie crowd starring hipster princess Zooey Deschanel and ex-martian Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
I’m a fan of both of these actors, but the story was your typical boys meets girl, boy loses girl, boy tries to get girl back, etc. We’ve seen it thousand of times. The only difference here is that gender stereotypes are reversed – Gordon-Levitt is the one that can’t let go and Deschanel is the heartless bastard.
I enjoyed the clever way the 500 days played out in an hour and half, but overall I was not completely satisfied with the end result. Both of the characters lack depth and there’s a couple of times when a slow clap was (almost) necessary – the writers even put one in the movie to make fun of themselves.
See it if you’ve got a free ticket or absolutely nothing to do, but don’t take your girlfriend cause she probably won’t enjoy it either.
