Unimpressed. He looks like an out of shape nerd dressed in a Halloween costume. Isn’t Captain American Chris Evans? This has to be a stunt man.

If you read my blog on a regular basis (and most likely you don’t), then you may remember my brief obsession with The Girl With Dragon Tattoo book series. Actually, it wasn’t brief at all cause it’s still going on. They’re now doing an American film of the book – the first two were made in Sweden and feature English subtitles. CD and I went and saw the second movie – The Girl Who Played With Fire – this past weekend and it sucked. It deserves better and I believe David Fincher has put together a stellar cast with the final piece now in place. Rooney Mara will play Lisbeth Salander, the heroine of the book series, with Daniel Craig and Robin Wright Penn supporting her in other key roles. I like the Mara choice because she’s relatively unknown. She won’t be after this film comes out. I can’t wait.
No comment needed for this:
I saw Predators yesterday afternoon and can’t really decide if I enjoyed the film or not. Part of me wants to like it because the first film is a classic. The other part of me wants to hate it because the first film is a classic.
Full disclosure: I didn’t see Predator until last week but I realize its significance in cinema. For 1987, the effects in that movie are top-notch. It’s definitely one of Arnold’s best movies.
I don’t have a problem with a studio trying to reboot or redo a classic movie (see Batman Begins). My problem with Predators is that it barely makes sense. The writers / director don’t explain anything. These people with troubled pasts are basically parachuted into some random jungle and we never find out how or why. We just know that they’re being hunted by something other than humans. But why these people? We never find out. It’s all some weird alien sport.
My friend ERK said “it must be so easy to be a sci-fi writer, because you can explain so much by using a white light.” So true. How many movies and TV shows have you seen where a white light is the cause and effect of everything plot related. You can make up for your lack of creativity by having the characters appear from a white light. Brilliant.
I realize that I’m not going to solve life’s problems by watching a movie like Predators. A movie like Predators is made for action purposes and surprisingly the film is lacking in that department. Go if you must but it’ll be on Showtime in two months if you can wait that long.
2 out of 5 stars
Someone needs to see this immediately. It looks amazing (for all the wrong reasons of course). I think it might have been shot entirely on an iphone and edited too for that matter. Worst movie of all time? I don’t know. Troll 2 still holds that title. That chick is extremely hot by the way.
Thanks for the head’s up, ERK.
No. I don’t think so. This movie looks like shit. I used to think Tracy Morgan was funny, but not after this preview. Something tell me their differences are just crazy enough to make this partnership work. File this one away with Paul Blart: Mall Cop. We’re getting dumber people.
Unfortunately I saw Wolfman on Friday night. Piece of shit movie. I’m almost mad I paid for the tickets. They should have paid me to go see it. I thought the trailer looked bad when it first came out, but I figured I’d give it a shot. Here are a few bullet points for you:
The Good: The makeup looks pretty decent.
The Bad: Pretty much everything else is bad. The script doesn’t make sense. The acting is terrible. The characters lack motivation. The story is dull. Even the killings aren’t terrifying. There’s no intensity or suspense in the whole movie.
Verdict: .5 a star simply because it was made.
Why can’t someone make a decent movie about werewolves? The only reason Underworld did so well is because they put Kate Beckinsale in a catsuit. I think I’ll write one. I can make a better one. Wait for it.
