BAND OF THE DAY: INTERPOL

You might be wondering why Interpol is the band of the day, because they haven’t released anything in a couple of years.  Well, let me explain.  I just found out they’re opening for U2 in Chicago on July 6 which is where I’ll be.  I’ve seen them live one time and have been anxiously awaiting their return to the road.  Great band to see live.  If their website worked I’d send you to it.

10.  Jay-Z Blueprint 3:  Jay-Z comes out of retirement a second time and delivers a solid effort.  It’s not Blueprint 2 but “Empire State of Mind” is worth the price of the album alone. 

9.   Norah Jones The Fall:  I don’t care what some of the internet trolls think; Norah Jones is the real deal.  She grows up on The Fall and delivers her most mature album to date.  There’s no sunshine on this record and that’s a good thing. 

8.  Nirvana Live At Reading:  Sometimes I need a reminder of why Nirvana was so important to music.  This came at a good time.  A popular bootleg gets released on CD/DVD at the peak of Nirvana’s career.  Classic live album. 

7.  Julian Casablancas Phrazes for the Young:  Strokes lead singer follows his band mates and goes solo.  The result is fresh and slightly experimental record with some great tracks on it (see “Out of the Blue” & “11th Dimension”).

It might be awesome.  Actually it is awesome.  Go see this movie if you like music.  If you don’t like music then you’re a dick and I hope you don’t ever see this movie.  Sad but true.

U2 SUPERFAN

We sat behind this douche at the U2 concert this past weekend.  I captured him on film several times, but this might be my favorite.  I believe he likes to rock (and smoke a lot of weed).

U2: NO LINE ON THE HORIZON

U2’s new album No Line On The Horizon drops today.  For the love of God go get it.  They’re amazing.  If you don’t believe me then go see them live.  I wasn’t a believer until I saw them in Chicago 3 years ago.  I’ve been hooked ever since.

Now I usually don’t endorse an album until I’ve listened to it the whole way through, but I’m making a special case here.  I’ve listened to half of it and read about 10 reviews.  Just go get it already.

PS They announce their tour next Monday.  Be ready for it.

THE GRAMMYS

Did anyone watch this crap last night?  I tuned in for about 5 minutes to witness Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift sing some duet.  I didn’t care and I don’t think anyone else did either.  The Grammy Awards used to be about the music, but now they’re about as entertaining as reruns of the Golden Girls.

The most interesting part of the night was the fact that Chris Brown and Rihanna were missing.   Apparently, Chris Brown was in jail for beating her up on Saturday night.  Nice work dude.  Hip hip hooray for music today – bunch of f**king a**holes.
